This webinar (54 min) presents an overview of effective and acceptable support services available to caregivers. Researcher Mélanie Couture aggregated the findings of a number of systematic reviews of caregiver support programs to assess their impact, acceptability and effectiveness. The webinar touches on the following categories of support: respite care, psychosocial services, bereavement follow-up, psychological consultation, information and documentation services, training, and self-help/support groups.

The webinar originally aired as a Communauté de pratique virtuelle Continuum Aînés event, on November 20, 2019. It is aimed primarily at individuals and organizations who provide caregiver support services.

The webinar is based on data from the Statistics Canada 2012 General Social Survey (GSS) – Caregiving and Care Receiving. Note that more recent GSS data were published in 2018. Click here to see the Institut de la statistique du Québec’s analysis of the data pertaining to Quebec.

The definition of “caregivers” commonly used in Quebec today is drawn from the provincial Act to recognize and support caregivers (see the definition here).
