Caregiving in Quebec
According to the most recent statistics from a population-based survey (Statistics Canada, 2018), an estimated 21.1% of the Quebec population aged 15 and over are caregivers. This represents some 1,489,000 individuals.
In reality, however, the number of caregivers in Quebec could be much higher, since many of them do not self-identify as such. This may include:
- Women
- People who care for a loved one with mental health issues
- Parents of children with special needs
- People from ethnocultural communities
- Young caregivers
