This report (50 pages) presents the findings from a 2015 survey on the experiences of U.S. caregivers who supported an adult with one or more mental health issues. A particular focus is how caregiving has impacted the caregiver’s life. The report is based on quantitative online interviews with 1,601 respondents aged 18 and up who had reported providing unpaid care in the year prior to the survey to an adult with serious-to-moderate emotional or mental health issues.

Key themes include a profile of the targeted caregiver subset; the impact of caregiving on caregiver health and well-being; the nature, intensity and duration of caregiving activities; and caregiver information and support needs. Recommendations for policymakers are also offered.
