According to several institutional, community, and scientific stakeholders, recognizing oneself as a caregiver is a crucial first step in receiving caregiver support.

This report (153 pages) entitled “Caregiver Recognition and Self-Recognition: Challenges and Practices” presents the results of a reflection on the definitions, benefits and challenges of recognition and self-recognition of caregivers. This documentary research also includes a literature review leading to the identification of existing practices, here and elsewhere, to promote caregiver recognition and self-recognition.

This report is addressed, among others, to professionals and practitioners to stimulate reflection on what can be done in the health and social services network and within non-governmental organizations to promote recognition and self-recognition of caregivers. The report is the first step towards documenting and amplifying expertise and existing practices.

The report is also the subject of a webinar (47 min, in French) in collaboration with the Communauté de pratique Proche aidance, broadcast on October 25, 2023.
