On October 25th, the Observatory will present its webinar “Promoting the Recognition of Informal Caregivers: A Review of Practices in Quebec, Canada, and Abroad” produced jointly with the Communité de pratique en proche aidance.
For institutional, community and scientific stakeholders, an essential first step in supporting caregivers is recognition — not just the caregiver’s ability to recognize and appreciate their role, but also the ability of those around them.
During this webinar, the speakers will facilitate a discussion on what can be done within the Health and Social services, as well as within non-governmental organizations, to promote recognition and self-recognition among caregivers. They will draw upon a literature review conducted by the Quebec Observatory on Caregiving regarding the definitions, benefits, and challenges of recognition and self-recognition, as well as practices that exists, here and elsewhere, to promote them.
Based on this work, four practices will be presented:
- The Family Caregiver Identity Scale (Elise Eifert)
- Carer Passport - Hospitals (Carers UK)
- Carer Passport - Employment (Carers UK)
- The "Jeu des 7 familles" (L'Appui for caregivers)
Important considerations and issues related to the implementation of recognition and self-recognition practices in various settings will also be discussed.
