Supporting someone with a mental health issue is rarely a linear process. Crisis episodes, efforts to get help, periods of caregiving and intervals of stability can follow one another, recur and overlap.
To document the complexity of the realities faced by caregivers in this context, we have developed a new interactive infographic titled “Trajectory of caregivers of people living with serious mental health problems.” It is based on the latest scientific findings as well as insights shared during workshops bringing together caregivers, a researcher, and representatives from organizations including La Boussole, AMI-Québec, CAP santé mentale, and Arborescence.
The interactive infographic highlights the key moments that can shape caregivers’ journeys, as well as the challenges that may arise at different stages of their trajectory—including the need to involve the legal system and the stigma and discrimination they may face. It also provides concrete guidelines to better understand their realities, recognize their needs, and strengthen the support services available to them.
A detailed report accompanying this infographic will be published in 2027.
