This document (32 pages) looks into physical activity among unpaid caregivers aged 55 and up in England. Indicators such as activity levels, motivations for integrating exercise into everyday life, and the barriers preventing caregivers from prioritizing their own health and well-being are examined. Recommendations for encouraging caregivers to engage in physical activity are also offered.

The mixed-methods research project includes a quantitative phase consisting of an analysis of responses to the Carers UK State of Caring 2019 survey, and a qualitative phase involving focus groups and interviews with 37 participants. It was followed by a pilot project designed to test some of the ideas emerging from research with 27 participants.

The findings aim to inspire national and local decision-makers to improve caregiver health and well-being and reduce the social isolation of caregivers by encouraging their participation in physical activity.
