This web dossier shares the results of a study assessing patient navigation practices for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. It includes the full research report (70 pages), a three-page summary and two tools:

Patient navigation aims to help families chart their path through the healthcare system and improve the coordination of care and services. The report identifies the concrete practices that make up patient navigation for children with ASD, then highlights the types of interventions most apt to meet the needs of both children and their families. The study involved interviews with parents and patient navigators, a telephone survey with families, analysis of the administrative data provided by five Montreal-area CIUSSS, and direct observation of certain interventions.
