Vision
To be a hub for the production, sharing and transfer of reliable, essential and relevant knowledge aimed at raising awareness and fostering the recognition of caregiving, in order to better support all caregiving stakeholders.
In this capacity, the Quebec Observatory on Caregiving plays a unifying role, fostering encounters and exchanges between the many different stakeholders involved in caregiving who, together, have a wealth of expertise:
- Caregivers, with their experiential knowledge
- Practitioners and professionals from NGOs and the health & social services network, with their practice-based and clinical knowledge
- Researchers and other producers of scientific knowledge
- Elected officials and public servants, with their administrative, strategic and political knowledge
The Observatory’s four core values
Cooperation
The Observatory works with other caregiving experts within a collaborative dynamic grounded in co-construction and co-development. This spirit of cooperation stems from a recognition of differing but complementary types of knowledge — namely, scientific, experiential, practical and contextual knowledge. By building trust and a sense of equality among our members, collaborators and partners, we foster contributions from and serve the needs and interests of all stakeholders while facilitating the free sharing of ideas and perspectives, interdisciplinarity, intersectorality, cohesion and the development of a shared body of knowledge.
See the Observatory’s intersectoral collaboration and partnership framework.
Amplification
The Observatory showcases and amplifies current caregiving knowledge from different areas of expertise, including that of caregivers. Accordingly, it strives to ensure that its output and activities represent added value for each of its target audiences. Achieving this goal calls for an inclusive, respectful approach to the realities, needs and knowledge of all caregiving stakeholders so as to ensure useful, accessible and quality deliverables.
Innovation
At the Observatory, innovation stems from ongoing exchanges with the various stakeholders who are involved in its activities — the pooling of ideas and information that generates, not just new knowledge, but also innovative approaches to how knowledge is monitored, produced, mobilized and transferred. Innovation also means remaining on the lookout for emerging needs, changes and trends in caregiving.
Excellence
Lastly, the Observatory strives for excellence in its output and activities by keeping to an approach grounded in rigour, professionalism and objectivity. Working closely with our collaborators, we apply sound reasoning and the most accurate evidence possible to support decision-making, stimulate action and fuel research.
