This report (110 pages, in French) from the Institut national d’excellence en santé et services sociaux (INESSS) examines the core characteristics of a quality living environment in Quebec long-term care facilities (CHSLDs). It examines the impact of the living environment on residents, their caregivers, staff and the facility overall, and also details how the environments in these centres are assessed.

Drawing on a review of the scientific and grey literature, the report identifies five essential components of a long-term care living environment and provides numerous tools and indicators for assessing its quality. A research summary and practical guide for managers and professionals are also available.
