This report (28 pages, in French) introduces a typology for the caregivers of people with chronic conditions who live at home, the better to identify those who have the greatest needs.
The typology draws on findings from the 2008 Enquête Handicap-Santé (disability/health survey) conducted by France’s Direction de la recherche, des études, de l’évaluation et des statistiques (DREES) and Institut des Politiques Publiques (IPP). It was developed based on the demographic profiles of caregivers and care recipients, the nature of their relationship, support needs and level of caregiver involvement. After the data were compiled, ten groups were identified. These groups fall into three caregiver categories: most impacted, moderately impacted and least impacted.
