This online resource provides downloadable tools and information aimed at raising awareness of young caregivers and their urgent need for support. It offers the following resources:

  • A web page (in French) with information on how to help young caregivers thrive.
  • A guide (15 pages) aimed at raising public awareness of the realities and challenges of young caregivers aged 6 to 25.
  • An infographic presenting the most recent statistics on the realities and the negative & positive impacts of providing care at a young age, as well as ideas on how to support young caregivers. ‎‎
  • A video (7 min) for health & social services professionals.
  • A video (7 min) for education professionals.
  • A PowerPoint presentation (11 slides, in French) containing statistics on young caregivers, the impact on health and education of providing care at a young age, and the challenges of delivering support and services to young caregivers. The presentation was created by Annie-Claude Harvey, a doctoral student in community health at Université Laval and a former young caregiver.

This online resource was created by Proche aidance Québec in 2021, based on an extensive literature review as well as on the recommendations from organizations specialized in supporting young caregivers, particularly in Australia and the United Kingdom. These findings have been adapted to the Quebec context by a committee of health, education and caregiving experts who have been working to raise awareness about caregiving since 2018.

Please note that Proche aidance Québec is the new name for the Regroupement des aidants naturels du Québec (RANQ).
