This guide (42 pages, in French) provides caregivers with information on the various stages of supporting a loved one through palliative or end-of-life care. The guide, which is divided into three sections corresponding to the three stages of the support journey (shock, the ups and downs, and the end of life), offers tools,‎ resources and thoughts on how to better support caregivers who must go through this process.

Note that the guide was created specifically to meet the needs of caregivers living in the area covered by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS; as a result, the resources it lists are local. o see the resources available in other regions, consult the L’Appui’s caregiver resource directory.

A video (9 min., in French) on the guide’s development was published on December 3, 2019 by the Communauté de pratique virtuelle Continuum aînés. The presenter is Mona Abaoui, knowledge broker for the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l’Estrie – Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS). The guide’s development is also detailed in a caregiving practice community publication (in French) released in 2021 by the knowledge transfer team at the Institut Universitaire de première ligne en santé et services sociaux (IUPLSSS), part of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS.
